![]() Educators are frustrated and losing motivation. Teachers note that some students say they “can’t do it,” some are just disappearing, and some - often teens - don’t want to be seen on camera.Īll of this is taking a huge emotional toll. Teachers are also worried about their students’ abilities to learn under the current conditions, whether that is virtual or under new in-person. Veteran teachers say they flourished for years teaching students, but now they teach content , staring into a computer screen - and they feel alienated. The conversation about parents needing to work and students needing to be in school to learn simply leaves them out.Īmong those teaching virtually, many feel the lack of personal connection with their students, who they now see through a screen or wearing a mask. They are envious, feeling overlooked when other organizations close down to protect their customers and employees alike, yet they are expected to continue to show up and take risks. They are angry, believing their lives and well-being are the last to be considered. Many are afraid - afraid of getting sick or of bringing the virus home to their own children, immunocompromised spouses, or elderly parents. ![]() The way that teachers feel about the challenges they are facing compounds the impact of the challenges themselves. Many veteran teachers who love their work and used to find joy in being with their students tell us they are more disengaged and are not prepared for remote learning, which involves new technology and new skill sets that many must learn on the fly with very little support. This fall schools were pressured to open despite many failing to meet the pre-conditions set by the CDC. Teachers often faced a lack of PPE, lack of sanitation, and poor ventilation - all of which fell short of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 safety guidelines. Consider the circumstances that teachers have faced since March, when schools closed and then opened, then, in many cases, repeated that cycle multiple times, often on very short notice. At the beginning of the fall, facing the school year, we asked another couple thousand teachers how they thought they would feel in the fall. They have persevered through not only the stresses of the changing classrooms, but also the emotional upheavals of COVID-19, racial reckoning, the election, and economic pressures.Īt the height of the first wave of the pandemic, we asked thousands of teachers how they were feeling. The stresses teachers have experienced this year are different from anything we have seen before, both in type and intensity. And due to the emotional upheaval related to the coronavirus and the social unrest associated with murders of Black people, since last spring we have provided them with additional tools so they can both cope with their own difficult feelings and help students manage uncertainty and stress. At the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence we have spent two decades supporting educators through our evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning, RULER, that has been adopted by over 2,500 schools across the U.S. Yet that is only the opening paragraph of a longer story that includes the personal resilience of teachers, the adaptability of school leaders, the compassionate response of many organizations. They are stretched beyond their limits, many feeling ineffectual in the virtual world and stressed having to put on their “happy face” when so much feels out of control. ![]() Surveys of their well-being and emotions tell the anxiety and emotional pain they have endured since the spring. Director prob said "give me some of that Lethal Weapon music". action music has Kamen's thumb print all over it. I didn't have enough appreciation for it as a teenager.Ģ) Kamen probably should have gotten an "additional music by" credit for the action material, which takes "Die Hard on a plane" literally. I somehow ended up watching this movie late last night and was struck by two things:ġ) The funky parts of the score (particularly the main title) are much better than I remember. Can you provide a full tracklisting and possibly recommend a reliable place that may have it in stock? The chase music that immediately follows the titles is very good as well. The main title is available on STANLEY CLARKE AT THE MOVIES, although it is extremely annoying that you have to buy a whole other CD just to get it. If you can find it, the score-only import CD is well worth getting (got mine through Footlight Records a year or so ago). That music was the main reason I originally bought this CD way back in '92! Oh well.good stuff all the same.Ĭlarke's music for The Transporter is also excellent. And I absolutely agree that the exclusion of the awesome main title music is a big minus. I love his own non-score albums though, 'If This Bass Could Talk' being one of my favourites, just check out the track with Clarke playing Bass while Gregory Hines (rip) tap dances.sublimeĬlarke is one of THE greatest bass players who ever lived! Stanley Clarke's film scores don't do anything for me. Next best track for me is the "ferris wheel" action music. More importantly, where's the main title track? This was my favourite piece of music from this score, does anyone know why it was left off? ![]() ![]() I was just going through some scores I bought years ago, and came across Stanley Clarke's Passenger 57 album.Ī fairly good listen although he "borrows" extensively from Michael Kamen's Lethal Weapon sound. Together, these will ensure a stable system in which much more electricity is used than today. Now that many consumers have also become producers ('prosumers') and solar meadows and wind farms are being developed in many places in addition to the usual power plants, the network structure of the future must be decentralized. ![]() From centralized to decentralized electricity supplyĮlectricity infrastructure around the world is designed for centralized electricity generation, characterized by one-way traffic from producer to consumer. Smart grids have more to do with digitization than with extra cables. *A smart grid is an energy system in which PV panels, electric cars, heat pumps, household appliances, large but also small-scale storage systems and substations are intelligently connected.*However, more attention to energy storage is desperately needed too and high-voltage grid reinforcement will also be inevitable locally. A better alternative is the construction of smart grids this is what this article is about. The least elegant solution here is curtailment which means that the capacity of all solar meadows and wind farms is only used for 70%. The second is large-scale storage of electricity, both for the short and the long term. The first is to increase the capacity of the high-voltage grid. ![]() There are three ways to solve this problem. Many requests for the large-scale generation of solar energy are waiting for a license because the electricity grid in large parts of the Netherlands is overloaded. In that case, thanks to the ‘salderingsregeling’, the electricity company pays back the full amount and also has to pay(!) companies that buy electricity at that time!Īnd now? Now the government suffers the consequences and is limiting the growth in the number of solar panels. In fact, when there is more supply than demand for electricity on the grid, the wholesale price of electricity is negative. This includes the costs of the aforementioned (tax) facilities and subsidies, as well as the billions in investments in grid reinforcement resulting from the large-scale (re)delivery to the grid of decentral generated energy. So far, no audit office has checked what the government pays for a kilowatt hour of electricity that citizens produce on their roofs. Most citizens are very satisfied with solar panels and their impact on the energy bill. Favorable tax facilities have been created and a generous so-called ‘salderingsregeling’ has been set up, and with success. The Dutch government has dug deep into its pockets to get citizens and companies to cover their roofs with solar panels and to encourage the construction of solar meadows. Based on this theme, both the role of digital technology and the relationship between digital and social innovation will be illustrated. The 20th episode of the Better Cities - The contribution of digital technology-series is about electrification, as part of climate adaptation. ![]() Because many of the miscellaneous trophies require the Landscape Pages, it’s recommended that players complete the story before attempting these tasks.
